Situation

At Ingram Micro, a Fortune 500 company, I was a part of the CloudBlue PaaS platform division. The company decided to launch an internship program.

Task

I decided to actively participate in the internship program launch and find candidates through my personal and professional network as a Product Management Mentor at ITMO University.

The key metrics that I was targeting were:

  • The number of candidates that I attract,
  • The number of candidates that were hired from my recommendation.

Action

I contacted the product analyst intern whom I hired at my previous company and 2-4 students from my personal network as a mentor.

I contacted 5 candidates, reviewed 5 resumes and recommended 3 of the candidates to the Product Team Head. It happened during the first 2 days after an internship program had been introduced at Ingram Micro.

Results

3 of the candidates got hired (2 – as PM interns, and one – as a Product Analyst intern) and passed their probation period. One of them still works at Ingram Micro and got promoted to Product Manager. I’ve been mentoring this intern while he was working as a Product Analyst intern. I was guiding him while I was working on the unit economics of the PSA Integrations product (he was searching for the data sources, performing data preparation and calculations).
